FilmSharks Secures Rights to Political Action Thriller Project ‘Insurrección,’ Teams With ‘El Capo”s Marlon Moreno (EXCLUSIVE)

According To The variety Guido Rud‘s Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks has secured all rights — including derivative IP — to “Insurrección,” a provocative and politically charged action-thriller film project, teaming with acclaimed Colombian actor-producer Marlon Moreno (“El Capo,” “Dog Eat Dog”). Written by Colombian screenwriter Mauricio Marulanda González, “Insurrección” is in development with plans for dual Spanish and English-language versions. Envisioned as “Public Enemy” meets “The Bourne Identity” (meets “Nuevo Orden”), the project seeks to fuse high-octane genre storytelling with a sharp sociopolitical pulse. For the Spanish-language version, Marlon Moreno – of Disney+ TV series “El Capo,” Sundance hit “Dog Eat Dog,” Netflix top ranked series “La Venganza de Analía” and box office success “Corazón de León” – is joining as executive producer and creative collaborator, bringing both star power and creative vision. Set against a backdrop of corruption and social unrest, “Insurrección” follows Nicolás Díaz, a law professor who, disillusioned by the system, leads a masked insurgent cell that live-streams the trials and executions of high-ranking politicians. As their message electrifies the public, state forces hunt to unmask the mysterious leader —only to discover he has assumed the identity of a man who died 22 years earlier. The project fits FilmSharks’ strategy of developing bold, socially reflective IPs with crossover potential. “You have to bet on stories with impact, without fearing whether they’re politically correct or not,” Rud told Variety. “‘Insurrección’ echoes the unrest of Ibero-American societies – a cry against inequality and manipulation. It’s an IP built for high controversy, deep debate, and massive audience engagement.” Moreno described the project as an artistically ambitious and emotionally resonant reflection of today’s world. “It’s not just a story — it’s a pulse, a collective and intimate call to question power, memory, and dignity,” he said. “It merges the personal and the epic to interrogate the times we live in.” The announcement strengthens FilmSharks’ position as one of Ibero-America’s leading indie movie outfits. With over 35 production credits and partnerships with Sony, Warner Bros., Universal, Disney, Videocine, and Patagonik, FilmSharks continues expanding from sales and remakes into high-concept original development. A force in the crossover world of Latin American and Hollywood cinema, Rud is also involved in upcoming or recent titles such as Demian Rugna’s genre film “Félix,” sci-fi movie “Pacífico,” with “Undertow’s” Manolo Cardona; Pancho Rodríguez’s Disney-backed thriller “Abracadáver” and Hugo Cardozo’s “Do Not Enter,” sold to over 45 territories for theatrical release.
