Rami Malek, Rebecca Hall, Ebon Moss-Bachrach Starring in Ira Sachs’ Musical Fantasia ‘The Man I Love’ (EXCLUSIVE)

According To The variety Academy Award winner Rami Malek is set to star in Ira Sachs’ forthcoming film “The Man I Love.” Set in the vibrant era of late ’80s New York, “The Man I Love” is a described as a “musical fantasia of a city under duress.” It is based on the screenplay by Sachs and Mauricio Zacharias. The film will co-star Tom Sturridge and Luther Ford alongside BAFTA nominee Rebecca Hall and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Malek will play Jimmy George, a downtown artist living “in an extraordinary moment between great illness and death when, still, all beauty and love is possible.” Malek won an Oscar for his portrayal of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.” His credits include “No Time to Die,” “The Little Things” and the TV series “Mr. Robot.” He will next star opposite Russell Crowe in Sony Pictures Classics’ “Nuremberg,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and is slated for release in November. Sturridge’s credits include “Far From the Madding Crowd” and “The Sandman.” He will next be seen in “The Wizard of the Kremlin” and “The Chronology of Water.” Ford is best known for playing Prince Harry in “The Crown” and has appeared in “Black Doves.” Hall starred in the critically acclaimed “Christine” and also appeared in “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Iron Man 3.” She directed “Passing” and co-stars in Sachs’ “Peter Hujar’s Day.” Moss-Bachrach broke through with “The Bear” and starred in this summer’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Sachs is a renowned independent filmmaker, whose credits include “Love is Strange,” “Little Men” and “Passages.” Principal photography begins in New York in late September. Scott McGehee, David Siegel and Mike Spreter will produce through Big Creek Projects, alongside Myriam Schroeter (“Sorry Baby”). Big Creek previously produced Siegel & McGehee’s “The Friend,” starring Naomi Watts and Bill Murray, which was released by Bleecker Street in April. Big Creek also recently produced the Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning “Atropia.” Saïd Ben Saïd, who worked on Sachs’ “Passages,” and Misook Doolittle (“The Trial of the Chicago 7”) are also on board as producers.
